In the 1920’s a gentleman had to go into hospital for a life saving operation. He subsequently recovered and asked the surgeon what he could do to repay him.
The surgeon asked him to raise £100 for his charity. Within weeks he had raised the £100 and went on to raise £100,000’s more.
A simple club was formed (AOFB), 5 shillings got you membership, a pair of cufflinks and you met in a pub (called a Vat) for sensible drinking and fellowship. Even a song.
During World War 2, the charity disbanded, but in the late 1990’s, 2000’s someone wrote a book about this and created the Friends Of the Froth Blowers.
I m a member of the Sussex Branch and you can follow the following link to their website with more of the history www.frothblowers.org.
